This hanger is about 4 inches deep which is what I needed to hang a large deep-sided platter. It works great with one exception- the mounting holes are too close together. The sheetrock between the two holes was so thin it popped when my husband set the second screw. This item was a bit pricey (I paid over $22 with shipping)but it does the job and it is a nice looking piece.
