Stylish though this lamp is, it was disappointing to discover that "mica" is meant to describe only the pattern of the lamps shade, not the material of which it is made. Perhaps naively, I expected some sort of glass shade, rather than the thin, synthetic sheet with a "mica" pattern the shade turns out to be. Also, I do wonder about the durability of the ensemble over time. The shade is glued to its metal frame, and in two small spots are not quite flush with the metal. While this doesn't affect the lamp's appearance when lit, in natural daylight those two slight wavy spots are perceptible enough to irritate. Overall, I'm happy enough keeping the lamp but do have reservations.
